I recently had an interesting encounter with someone I often meet during my walks. He mentioned he was attempting to build a "pondless waterfall" in his backyard but was unsure how to go about it. He shared his guesses on how to tackle the project.

Wanting to help, I found a YouTube tutorial from a reputable landscape gardening company in the USA. The video showed how to create a stunning water feature without a pond, so I shared the link with him.

The next time I saw him, I asked how the project was going. He replied, "Still struggling."

I inquired, "Did you find the video helpful with its pointers and ideas?" (I knew it was valuable because I watched all 19 minutes of it.)

He responded, "I haven't had time to watch it."

Oof.

This made me realize that even when helpful tips and strategies are available, people often feel too busy to take advantage of them. It's a bit like pricing cakes. Social media is filled with questions about how much to charge for cakes, with many seeking advice from strangers.

Instead of taking the time to learn the essentials of pricing... they rely on guesswork.

Struggling with cake pricing? The key is determining the true bottom-line price - the minimum price for an order. Only then can you decide whether to offer a discount or increase the price slightly. Calculating the true cost, including the hours required, is crucial.

Without knowing the true cost, it's difficult to discuss how to make a cake more elaborate and expensive or simplify the design to save time and money. Reducing design elements can cut costs without affecting profit.

See? Knowledge is power. In this case, it empowers you to make informed decisions about what to add or remove, influencing the final price to the customer.
